Scott focuses his practice on criminal appeals. He has 15 years of appellate experience representing clients who have been convicted of crimes that range from low-level felonies to murder.
Scott takes on a limited number of cases so that he can give each case the attention it deserves. A client's expectations of an attorney should be met. This means that the attorney must know the facts of the case, know the applicable law, and communicate with the client frequently.
Scott is certified by the California State Bar, Board of Legal Specialization, as a Criminal Law Specialist. This requires passing an additional exam administered by the State Bar, additional continuing education requirements, and periodic reviews from peers and judges.
Scott has been practicing criminal law since 2004. His appellate skills are enhanced by the fact that he has completed over 30 jury trials to verdict (including three murder trials) before focusing his practice on criminal appeals.
Scott graduated from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, with a grade point average of 3.95, putting him in the top 5% of his class. Scott received "Top Honors" in Trial Advocacy while in law school and was a finalist (final four) in his law school appellate advocacy competition (photo is from that competition).
In addition to his law degree, Scott received his Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) from San Jose State University and his Bachelor of Science degree from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
Scott is a member of the Central California Appellate Program, the First District Appellate Project, and the Criminal Justice Act Panel (federal criminal appeals). He is admitted to practice law in the State of California, United States District Court - Eastern District of California, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. Scott is also a member of the California Appellate Defense Counsel (CADC) and the California Public Defender's Association (CPDA).
